Drawings

Something done in conjunction with watching television. [Now a bit of too much information]. Last year I had retinal detachments in both eyes and in the process of the reattachment had cataract surgery as well to save future operations. Therefore now when I draw it is either no glasses and have approximate close vision or wear glasses and draw things up to about 30cm away. I could of course got multi-focal lenses, but then I'm sure I would have ended up wearing glasses all the time and I'm so enjoying not having to wear glasses after about 50 years of wearing them. I may have to give in to multi-vocals in the end, but for the moment I'll persevere.

A Melbourne Interlude

I'm not long back from a 'clergy spouse conference' in Melbourne. I went and stayed with our son so that I could have some time to look at art, talk, search out a few art materials, and think, ponder and meditate. I did all these things. This is what I drew on the train back to his place one day while I was avoiding reading the novel I'm reading because of impending violence. As usual once beginning the drawing I was drawn in. Creation wants to out. I found it surprisingly dislocating being away from home by myself at this time. I felt an affinity with Greta Garbo's later response to the world. Now I'm back in the familiar and feeling more 'normal' , but wondering.

Some Drawings from sitting near the heater

I try to draw regularly because I think that it's good for seeing and looking and once started, drawing seems to take me to a part of my consciousness that is playful. So that mostly drawing in with a sense of joy and achievement.

Trying to Create Delight

I'm sort of twiddling my thumbs until I get around to stretching some paper and gessoing it. There is something that I need in a larger scale; a presence.
